Arkwright Scholars Attend CEB Connect Day
On 16 January we were delighted to host 60 Arkwright Scholars at CEB for a Connect Day supported by the Smallpeice Trust. The students found out more about Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and the role our disciplines play in tackling the biggest global challenges.
The Scholars were taken on a tour of our building and its state-of-the-art facilities by current Chemical Engineering undergraduate students. Our researchers shared highlights of the projects they are working on and their important applications in day-to-day life. They also visited our Makerspace, Computing Suite, and the Teaching Lab.
The scholars also enjoyed a lecture given by Dr Zach Bond on fluid mechanics demo involving water and dye and participated in a practical problem-solving exercise designed to help them understand how energy is transmitted through a liquid.
Later, they all learned more about the Cambridge admissions process and the Cambridge college system from Professor Kamran Yunus. The Scholars gathered valuable advice and tips from academics and current students on how to apply to Cambridge and how to write a personal statement for their application.
One Arkwright Scholar had a few words to say about their day at CEB;
"I've learnt the industry applications of chem engineering, That chem engineering is all about the process[es] and improving efficiency, [and] what day to day life is like as a Chem Engineering student"
When asked if there was any way the Connect Day could be improved, one student simply responded;
"[There's] nothing, I had an amazing time!"
